Shortly after the war, Yumiko, the wife of Ginji, whose voice and limbs were crippled in the flames of war, is exhausted from caring for her husband. One day, Ōki, a subordinate of Ginji, visits and is shocked by Ginji's transformed appearance, yet he inadvertently observes Yumiko, who is compelled to serve Ginji as directed. Yumiko struggles between the accumulated hatred towards her husband and her physical dissatisfaction.
